Our Story
Our story is a testament to the values of hard work, determination, and the enduring bonds that unite us as a family. It speaks to the profound impact of starting small, believing in oneself, and nurturing relationships that withstand the test of time.
Our journey began in 1976 when our founder, Brian Sharp, a young man in his early 20s, with the money he earned digging oil pipelines in Alberta, embarked on a remarkable adventure along the American west coast and into Mexico in a humble Volkswagen van. Brian, deeply influenced by the values of hard work instilled in him while assisting his father and brothers in constructing the original Ponderosa Campground in Mount Albert, Ontario (still there today), returned to Canada in 1977 and with a loan of $200, courageously started his first roofing job. This humble beginning marked the genesis of something truly extraordinary.
Sometime around 1984, Luis Amaral joined Brian and swiftly rose to become Brian's most trusted Roofing foreman for over 40 years. Even today, you can find Luis in the back shop, diligently tinkering with tools and equipment, a testament to the long-lasting relationship with the company.
In 1989, a 16-year-old Joe Ferrier joined our team as a laborer, and through unwavering loyalty and perseverance, he climbed the ranks from laborer, telemarketer, accounts receivable, estimator to eventually assume the role of President.
Michael was genuinely taken aback when he received his well-deserved retirement gift on his final day at the office, October 27, 2022. Your contribution over the years is truly appreciated and instrumental.
In 1991, Michael Lock joined our team as the senior estimator, a role he held for 32 years until his well-deserved retirement on his 65th birthday.
Joe's brother, Michael Ferrier, joined the team in 1998, planting his roots as a hard-working roof laborer. Under Luis Ameral's tutelage, he became specialized in leak detection, repair, and production. His unwavering commitment to the health and safety of his team members, coupled with his insatiable thirst for knowledge in contemporary roofing systems and practices, has steadily propelled him to the position of partner and our esteemed Operations Manager today. Michael's dedication, passion, and acuity for roofing, have been instrumental in shaping our team and driving our success.
