Common Problem #1: Seam Defects

Common Problem #3: Blisters

Blisters are pockets where the plies of the membrane have separated, usually because moisture or trapped air got between layers during installation and then expanded under heat. On a hot summer day, you'll see them as raised, bubble-like sections of the roof surface.
Small blisters are mostly cosmetic and don't necessarily need immediate action. The problem is that blisters weaken the membrane at that location, and repeated thermal cycling, which the GTA gets plenty of between summer highs and winter lows, causes them to grow and eventually crack open. Once a blister splits, it becomes a direct entry point for water.
Blistering is also a useful diagnostic clue about how the roof was installed. Widespread
